EP 51: 4 Weeks Pregnant: Week By Week Pregnancy Guide

Congratulations, Mama! You’re four weeks pregnant and just beginning the incredible journey of pregnancy.

Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, excited, or both, it’s completely normal. This blog post will walk you through what’s happening with your body, your baby, and how to set yourself up for a healthy pregnancy journey.

What’s Happening with Your Body?

At four weeks, your body is starting to adapt to support your baby’s growth. Here’s what you might notice:

  • Fatigue: Your body is working overtime, so don’t be surprised if you feel more tired than usual.
  • Tender Breasts: Hormonal changes might make your breasts more sensitive.
  • Bloating: Increased hormones can cause some discomfort early on.

Fun fact: Your body is producing a lot of HCG, the pregnancy hormone that causes many early pregnancy symptoms.

What’s Happening with Your Baby?

Your baby is the size of a poppy seed and officially an embryo! At this stage, they are made up of two layers—the epiblast and hypoblast—which will eventually form their organs and body parts.

Key Advice for Week 4

  • Choose a Prenatal Care Provider: Decide whether a midwife or OB aligns best with your birth preferences.
  • Start Prenatal Vitamins: If you haven’t already, begin taking folic acid to support your baby’s development.
  • Focus on Self-Care: Eat nutritious foods, stay hydrated, and rest when you need it.

Building Your Connection

Even at this early stage, many moms find joy in connecting with their baby. Try journaling, talking to your baby, or placing a hand on your belly for a quiet moment of reflection.

Week four is a time of incredible change, and every journey is unique. Celebrate the small milestones, prioritize self-care, and give yourself grace.
